Arrival of the palazzo

Yesterday was a red-letter day. My retirement home arrived on site. This portion was manufactured on an assembly line indoors where quality control is considerably better than it would have been if it had been built on site. Yes, it is a "stick-built" structure.

The structure is set on the site "sideways". This profile shows the main entrance area. The car port and RV port will be placed at right angles to this profile. (refer to the sketch).

Positioned; but not in it's final location

2 Weeks To Go

In two weeks; I will put the wraps on a career in information technology that has spanned 49 years. When I started the term "information technology" did not exist in anyone's lexicon. Most digital wristwatches have more computing power than the astronauts had on the way to the moon.

Believe it or not (this isn't Ripley's) on Friday (20 Dec) there will be a structure on this site. It will be trucked (literally) in from Phoenix.

Almost Retired

This Sunday (1 December) I will have 30 days and a wake-up to retirement. I will also have 21 working days left and since most of the last two weeks in December is pretty much given over to the holidays I really expect that much work happening.

The structure on the left is a RV-port. this is where I will park the RV when not on the road. It will also double as a guest house if and when that is necessary. I will also have an "observation deck" above the carport.

Superstition Mountains (my view)

I have a corner lot (that's probably obvious), just a little over 3,000 square feet of Arizona desert. The cactus in the picture is over 200 years old. That will provide me with a sense of perspective on time.

This is a photo of the model house. The windows are on the side of the house. There are another set of three windows (same size) on the front of the house.

June 2013 - Latest Grand Canyon trip

In late June, my wife Shellie, grand-daughter Keira, and sister-in-law Deirdre took a short trip to the Grand Canyon from New River, AZ. Here are a few shots that I took around sunset.

My Recreational Vehicle (RV)

Here is the RV that I stumbled upon while visiting Phoenix , Arizona this past June. I attended an RV show at the University of Phoenix Stadium.  It is 36' long and has two slides (one in the living area and one in the bedroom). The slides add additional space when parked. This RV is powered by a Chevrolet VORTEC 8.1 liter V8 engine and an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission.
